New Sweater Patterns to Knit for Spring 2024
Spring is such an exciting time for hand knit sweaters. The weather is still chilly enough that sweaters are essential for your everyday outfits, but you won’t need to layer a thick jacket on top so it is the perfect time to show off your favorite knits. With so many beautiful new patterns being released in 2024 already, I have gathered some that would make the perfect addition to your Spring wardrobe.
Ingrid Cardigan by Gregoria Fibers
Gregoria Fibers designs are always really interesting with the stitch textured used throughout. They are often a simple shape with really beautiful stitches to make them unique. Dark brown is a color that I am reaching for this Spring, so the Ingrid Cardigan caught my eye knit in the dark neutral color. This stitch pattern looks easy to remember, but it elevates this design from simple to unique.
Hepatica Sweater by Emma Maier
I love garter stitch. Although it can have the reputation in the knitting world that it is for beginners, I think it is one of the most beautiful stitches with all of the texture, and it makes stripes really interesting. The thin stripes on the Hepatica Sweater are featured in pretty Spring forward colors, but you could play around with a Monochromatic color palette, or go for a bold look with primary hues.
Wendy Sweater by Sandnes Garn
Sandnes Garn is one of the more popular yarn companies right now with some of their iconic yarns such as Peer Gynt. This sweater is knit in Tynn Silk Mohair and Sunday held together to create a DK weight yarn for faster knitting. The basic shape of this sweater is enhanced with the delicate saddle shoulder details. This would be a great pattern to play with color in your wardrobe. Go for a pop color like the pink they chose for the photo. With the allover stockinette stitch, this pattern would be great for on-the-go knitting.
Easy Ribbed Pullover by Annie Lupton
This sweater is fresh and unique, knit out of a beautiful variegated yarn that enhances the intricate but simple stitch pattern. The mixed rib stitch combined with the colorful yarn reminds me of Missoni, and makes for a really great addition to elevate your Spring wardrobe.
Norma Sweater by My Favourite Things Knitwear
This sweater is classic yet exciting with the possibility to play with pop colors for Spring. I love the basic shape of this sweater as it would make it easy to wear with many things already in your wardrobe. The neutral main color paired with really bright pops for the fair isle pattern is a smart way to add bright colors to a mostly neutral wardrobe.
Teddy Cardigan by Vicky Knits
I’m obsessed with everything about this perfect Spring cardigan. It reminds me of this knit jacket from Sacai X Carhartt WIP that I have had my eye on for months but is just a daydream purchase for me. The super bulky yarn would make this such a quick knit, that could probably be completed within one week for ambitious knitters.
Raglan Ringer Tee by Hannah Sandler
This tee by Hannah Sandler is such a wearable shape, that it would become an instant wardrobe staple. If I knit this pattern I will choose a cotton or linen yarn so that it is breathable to continue wearing into the summer. The stripe pattern is unique in the pattern, but it seems easy to mix it up with your own stripe pattern and colors. Tee shirt patterns are really hard to write because the shape of such an iconic garment seems simple but so many things effect the fit. This tee fits the model in the photos really nicely and looks overall like a comfortable fit.
Wildflower Whispers by Cris Dvic
This sweater is so unique! From the lace details around the hem, cuffs and neckline, to the embroidered flowers down the sleeves. It would be so fun to play with soft pastel colors for this sweater to complement your favorite spring florals.
Island Sweater by Kit Couture
The color blocked design of this pattern is so fresh and fun. What a great way to play with color! I feel like this could be an excellent stash buster project to use up the remnants of yarns from previous sweaters. This sweater was designed to be knit with an aran weight wool or alpaca sweater, but I think it would also work really well in a cotton yarn so that you could continue wearing it in the summer as a beach sweater.
Gagarin by Tokuko Ochiai
This sheer tee from the Amirisu shop makes for a great layering piece. Knit with linen, it could be worn with layers underneath for a more modest look, or it could be worn with a cami or bra top underneath to channel the sheer trends seen on the runways. This one is on my knitting list for this summer, perfect for the Southern California heat!
Spring Mint Cropped Cardigan by Nazanin S. Fard
The Spring Mint Cardigan is such a sweet layering piece for the Spring. Knit in a soft pastel green that shows off the leafy lace pattern. The cropped length would look so pretty with Spring dresses or high waisted tiered skirts. To personalize it you could lengthen the sleeve length, or knit it with a mohair yarn if you live somewhere with cooler Spring temperatures.
Sur pull à tordades by Bergère de France
This little lace vest is so cute and trendy. It looks sweet on the model without anything layered underneath, but it could also be worn with a button up for an office look. I want to wear this all summer long, and may even make some in multiple colors.
Ossus Pattern by Rastus Hsu
Rastus Hsu is one of my favorite designers right now. All of their designs are wearable and unique, and after watching them for several years, they have really found their own design voice. This new pullover knitting pattern looks equally fun to knit as it looks easy to wear. The interesting stitch texture allover would be fun to knit, and the rolled edge at the neckline is fresh and modern. I can’t decide if I would want to knit this pattern in a neutral color for everyday, or something bold to make a statement.
FIKA Jumper
The Fika Jumper looks like the perfect transition sweater to wear when the days are still chilly, but you are begging on your hands and knees for warmth to come and for the sun to set later… The designer made this pattern in wool and alpaca based yarns, which I think is perfect for the design as it will give you nice stitch definition in the cable details.
Esther Sweater by PetiteKnit
This PetiteKnit pattern is like a 90’s dream vintage sweater find, but you can knit it brand new. The oversized shape, textured stitch pattern and wooly yarn combo gives a nod to vintage menswear. I would wear this with jeans for a casual weekend look, or with biker shorts to bring back the classic Diana look.
Wishful Sweater by Lily Kate France
This fun pullover from Lily Kate France brings me back to childhood with it’s candy colors. The basic stockinette stitch design is the perfect canvas to show off your favorite hand painted yarn or other fun colorway. Also, with the mainly stockinette stitch body it would be a great travel project for some mindless knitting.
Hal by Taeko Takeuchi
This vest is so fun! I am obsessed with the high-low hemline and the chunky gauge. This is probably such a quick knit so if you are in a rut with your Spring knits, this would be a great pattern to start with to whip out a project for fast FO satisfaction.
Francesca Sweater by Moreca Knit
The Francesca Sweater is another great basic sweater that is elevated by the interesting stitch texture allover. It looks like an easy stitch pattern to remember. It is one of those patterns that I would probably get obsessed with and want to make in multiple colors!
Mila Cardigan by Sari Nordlund
Sari Nordlund consistently releases drool worthy patterns that make me want to cast on immediately. This cute cropped cardi is no exception. The intricate cable pattern and easy to layer shape make this pattern one you will reach for again and again in your Spring wardrobe.
The sister of the Esther Sweater, this time with in a cardigan version. If you love the look of the textured oversized pullover, but prefer a piece that is easier to throw on and off, this jacket version will be a great piece for those chilly Spring days.
