Fall 2023 Knitwear Trends

August has come to an end, and even though the temps are still suggesting we have more summer weather in store, all I have been doing is dreaming about my Fall knitting plans. Since we are getting into cozy sweaters, and larger garments for Fall, I always need a head start so that I have at least a couple pieces ready for when I truly need them.

I love to look to the runways and designer brands for my knitting inspiration. I find so much freedom knowing that I can take their looks as inspiration to make my own garments, which affords me a lot more options to add more than one piece to my collection at a time. I’ve gathered some pieces that I find really inspirational as I start to make my Fall knitting plans, as well as color and fiber ideas. I hope to incorporate all of these trends somehow into my Fall (and maybe some winter too!) knit wardrobe.

My mood board has a variety of styles, which include cardigans and pullovers in different weights, which is perfect for the changing weather of Fall. I really want to focus on knitting classic shapes, but with refined details so that the pieces feel really timeless and luxury. I have been seeing so many cardigans with zippers, both full and 1/4 zips. I think this is a really versatile way to make a cardigan look for sporty and fresh.

Mohair is another trend that is making a resurgence this year. I love the look of a basic & easy mohair sweater, knit slightly off gauge so it has some sheerness. They look ethereal and every color in mohair always looks so dreamy.

Lastly, I want to knit a very classic pullover in a neutral color. In the past, I have knit pieces that are more interesting to actually knit, but then aren’t as versatile in my wardrobe. This year I want something that I could wear with everything, but is slightly bulky so it doesn’t take too long to knit and keeps my interest. I would love to try Rowan Brushed Fleece for this piece, as it is a bulky yarn which would be quick to knit up, and the brushed finished is new yet refined.
