Moss Stitch

A white hand knit fabric knit with worsted weight yarn is moss stitch. The allover texture creates a checkerboard effect, alternating knit and purl stitches every stitch and every 2 rows.

Moss stitch is an elongated variation of seed stitch. It is simple to memorize, and only uses knit and purl stitches to create an intricate textured pattern. Use a yarn with great stitch definition to show off the changing stitches.

Cast on a multiple of 2 stitches.

Row 1 (RS): *Knit 1, purl 1; repeat from * to end of row.

Row 2 (WS): *Knit 1, purl 1; repeat from * to end of row.

Row 3 (RS): *Purl 1, knit 1; repeat from * to end of row.

Row 4 (WS): *Purl 1, knit 1; repeat from * to end of row.

Repeat rows 1-4 for desired length.
