Pleated Garter Rib Stitch

A white hand knit fabric. It is knit with worsted weight yarn and has vertical stripes created by a rib stitch with every other needle in garter stitch.

This variation on a rib stitch and garter stitch creates a bouncy fabric that naturally creates pleats. The stitch is very dimensional and is a great way to add more interest to sweater cuffs, collars, and hems.

Cast on a multiple of 4 stitches, plus 1.

Row 1 (RS): *Knit 3, purl 1; repeat from * to last stitch, knit 1.

Row 2 (WS): *Knit 3, purl 1; repeat from * to last stitch, knit 1.

Repeat rows 1-2 for desired length.
